Parametric Chicago Screw Generator
DescriptionA parametric Chicago screw / binding-post generator for creating custom-size printable screw posts in Fusion 360.The included Fusion 360 file is set up so most users only need to adjust the three highlighted parameters shown in the reference image:ShaftHeight — Sets the usable post length for your material stack.SleeveDiameter — Sets the outside diameter of the sleeve/post.Tolerance — Adjusts the thread fit between the screw and sleeve.Start with the default 0.20 mm tolerance. Increase it if the threads are too tight; reduce it cautiously only if your printer produces loose-fitting threads. The remaining parameters are available for advanced customization, including cap diameter, cap thickness, thread diameter, chamfer, and thread height. They are intentionally exposed, but there are no guard rails between related dimensions. Changing them aggressively can create interference, weak geometry, or a model that will not regenerate correctly. Save a copy before experimenting. The included 3MF is prepared with 100% infill so the screws print solid. For best thread quality, use a fine layer height such as 0.12–0.20 mm and print a test set before producing a larger batch.PETG, ABS, ASA, nylon, or another tougher filament is recommended for functional hardware. PLA may work for light-duty uses but is less suitable for repeated tightening or long-term stress. These are printed fasteners, not metal hardware. Use appropriate judgment for load-bearing, safety-critical, high-heat, or high-cycle applications.
